June is 88 years old. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama and came North in 1948. He is the pastor of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.

“We moved North for betterment. In Birmingham I was working as a cleaner. Here I had better jobs, better housing, better clothes. The things that I wanted. I remember you had to say, ‘Yassir’ and ‘Nawsir’ and be very careful about what you said and who you’d look at. You couldn’t drink out of the same fountain. It’s a little better now.”
